Tax Chief Chases Tax Payments After Fitch Cuts Indonesia's Credit Rating Outlook
Jakarta – Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto is pursuing tax settlements after Fitch Ratings trimmed Indonesia’s credit rating outlook from stable to negative. Fitch flagged state revenue as being weak. The DJP said early-2026 performance showed improvement. Net tax receipts in January 2026 rose 30.6 per cent year-on-year. Gross receipts rose around 7 per cent. ‘In February net revenue year-on-year is still high. If January was 30.6 per cent, February was around 30.2 per cent. Meanwhile gross is up 19 per cent,’ Bimo said at a media briefing at his office on Thursday 5 March 2026. The intensification involves ensuring taxpayers registered report all economic activities accurately. The extension of the tax base not only seeks new taxpayers but also traces potential from those already registered who have not reported all activities. The DJP has issued a Surat Permintaan Penjelasan atas Data dan/atau Keterangan (SP2DK) to taxpayers suspected of having economic activity but not yet remitting taxes. Bimo disclosed that there are around 6 million taxpayers in non-effective status who still require data cleansing. Some are suspected of having economic activity such as additional income, side businesses, and online ventures. The DJP stated that these measures are aimed at maintaining revenue performance and supporting the 2026 tax target.
