Task Force Targets Complete Relocation of Sumatra Disaster Evacuees to Temporary Housing Before Eid
JAKARTA — The Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Task Force for Sumatra is targeting the relocation of all disaster evacuees to temporary housing (huntara) before Eid al-Fitri 1447 H/2026 M.
Amran, spokesperson for the Sumatra Post-Disaster PRR Task Force, stated that the same target applies to mud-clearing operations in Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar).
“We hope this trend will continue to decline through the forthcoming Eid celebration. For the overall mud-clearing target, similar to the evacuees, we are targeting completion before Eid,” Amran said during a press conference at the Ministry of Home Affairs building in Central Jakarta on Monday (9 March 2026).
Currently, 1,872 households remain in tents. Over the past two days, 428 households were relocated to temporary housing prepared by the government.

Regarding mud-clearing operations, 406 of 508 affected locations across the three provinces have been completed. A remaining 102 locations are still under active remediation.
“These remaining locations are small areas serving as access points to various roads. With roughly two weeks remaining, we hope to complete all mud-clearing at 100 per cent before Eid,” Amran said.
