Head of the Satgas PRR, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, stated that based on Satgas PRR data as of 9 April, compiled from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, 1,593 places of worship in three disaster-affected provinces sustained damage. To date, 1,558 places of worship have resumed operations, while 35 others remain under treatment due to severe damage, including total washouts.

“In Aceh Province, out of a total of 918 affected places of worship, 906 have been returned to use by the community. In North Sumatra, 552 out of 571 places of worship are operational, while in West Sumatra, 100 out of 104 places of worship have been reactivated,” Tito said in a written statement on Friday (10/4/2026).

He noted that physical rehabilitation is supported by the disbursement of rehabilitation funding for places of worship by Satgas PRR. In Aceh, assistance for rehabilitating places of worship has been fully channelled, totalling Rp 3.75 billion. In West Sumatra, assistance amounting to Rp 500 million has also been fully disbursed.

“Meanwhile, the disbursement of funding assistance in North Sumatra is still in the process of completion, with a small portion of the budget yet to be channelled due to the relocation of buildings to safer locations,” he said.

Tito emphasised that the recovery of places of worship is a serious concern for the government, as they play a crucial role in restoring the spirit and peace of communities post-disaster.

“These are the affected places of worship; this is the assignment to the Minister of Religious Affairs (Nasaruddin Umar) and the Minister of Public Works (Dody Hanggodo),” Tito stated.

He added that these efforts are further strengthened by the central government’s attention to the recovery of the community’s spiritual life, particularly in Aceh. President Prabowo Subianto previously provided cattle assistance for the meugang tradition in 19 regencies/cities in Aceh, both ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, with a total value of Rp 145.5 billion.

“Mr President, in addition to providing Rp 4 billion assistance at the start for each regency/city and province for unforeseen expenses, plus for Aceh there is the meugang cattle, the total amounting to Rp 145.5 billion for 19 regencies/cities,” Tito said.

In addition, Satgas PRR routinely distributes worship equipment assistance to affected communities as part of non-physical recovery.

This step is expected to accelerate the return of religious activities, which form an important foundation in building community social resilience,” he concluded.
