The Chairman of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in the Sumatra Region, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, performed congregational Tarawih prayers with the community of Aceh Tamiang in a solemn ceremony.

The Tarawih prayers took place at Darussalam Mosque in Kampung Simpang Empat, Karang Baru Sub-district, Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh.

Prior to the Tarawih prayers, Tito also broke fast together with the disaster-affected community of Aceh Tamiang, including residents of the Danantara Aceh Tamiang temporary shelters. He also performed Maghrib and Isha prayers at the mosque.

Tito said he felt fortunate to be able to break fast on the first day of Ramadan 2026 and perform congregational Tarawih prayers with the people of Aceh Tamiang.

He revealed that the desire to do so had emerged before he was appointed by President Prabowo Subianto as head of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in the Sumatra Region.

“Because looking at the three affected provinces, across 52 regencies and cities, one of the most severely impacted is Aceh Tamiang,” Tito said in a written statement on Friday (20 February 2026).

Tito stressed that the government would not abandon its citizens affected by disaster. His presence in Aceh Tamiang on the first day of Ramadan 2026 was a symbol of the state standing alongside affected communities.

“As a representative of the central government, I am here not for any other reason but to send a signal that we, the central government, are not abandoning you,” Tito said.

Tito explained that the government and other relevant parties continue to work towards accelerating recovery in affected areas, including Aceh Tamiang.

Numerous efforts have been undertaken to date and results are beginning to show, including the resumption of government activities, availability of fuel, and markets beginning to operate once more.

Nevertheless, Tito acknowledged that several issues remain priorities, such as the handling of displaced persons, accelerating mud clearance operations, and the provision of clean water, which is currently being addressed.

“We will see this through to completion,” Tito said.

Tito affirmed that the government has provided various forms of assistance for affected communities, including those whose homes have been damaged.

The assistance includes Rp15 million for minor home repairs, Rp30 million for moderately damaged homes, and Rp60 million for severely damaged or destroyed homes.

Additionally, Tito emphasised the importance of solidarity in accelerating post-disaster recovery in Sumatra. He therefore called for support from all parties, including the general public, in speeding up the recovery process.

“Solidarity is extremely important, as is the spirit from all of us,” he concluded.
