Tanti Puji Rahayu was sentenced to one year and six months in prison in the ‘duos’ savings and investment case. The panel of judges found that the defendant continued to offer poultry investments even though the business had stopped.

MALANG – The defendant in the ‘duos’ savings and investment case, Tanti Puji Rahayu (45), was sentenced to one year and six months in prison by the panel of judges chaired by Rudi Wibowo, Wednesday (February 25, 2026) afternoon.

The sentencing hearing, which lasted about 40 minutes, was held in the Kartika courtroom. The defendant followed the proceedings closely, accompanied by her legal counsel, Sugiono, and Public Prosecutor Nova Hidayah.

After the hearing, Sugiono stated that they were still considering their next legal steps. “We are still thinking about it,” he said. He added that the panel of judges was deemed to have not considered the mitigating witnesses presented by the defendant.

According to him, the decision to accept the verdict or file an appeal is entirely in the hands of the defendant.

Beginning of the Case

The case began with a business cooperation between Tanti, a resident of Batu City, and Indriya Asmitha (39) in the form of a savings and investment scheme. The two initially connected online in 2021 and ran a ‘duos’ savings group, which involved two participants, with Tanti acting as the person in charge.

The scheme offered profits similar to a loan fund. For example, a deposit of IDR 10 million yielded a return of IDR 10.5 million, with an administrative fee of IDR 250,000, so participants received IDR 10.25 million.

The business ran smoothly at first. However, Tanti then offered investments in laying hen and broiler farms. In the process, the return on investment stalled as the poultry business was said to have stopped operating.

The prosecutor highlighted the fact that even though the poultry business had stopped, the defendant still offered similar investments to the complainant. The funds received were then diverted to other businesses, including a Pertamini (small-scale petrol station), which also did not run as planned.

When the complainant wanted to withdraw their capital, the funds could not be fully returned, so the matter was reported to the police and went to court.

Difference in Funds and Judge’s Consideration

During the trial, it was revealed that the total funds received by the defendant from the complainant amounted to IDR 1,149,870,000, while the total return was said to reach IDR 1,141,640,000, with a difference of about IDR 8,230,000.

The defendant denied any intention of fraud and stated that the obligations had been fulfilled, except for the difference. However, the panel of judges considered the act of continuing to offer poultry investments when the business was no longer operating as an aggravating factor.

After the hearing, Tanti was immediately returned to the correctional institution under the escort of officers, without making any statements to the media. (*)
