Tanjung Priok Terminal Head Ensures Safety of Homecoming Transport
Jakarta — The head of Tanjung Priok Bus Terminal, Sandi, is ensuring the safety of transport services as all inter-city and inter-provincial (AKAP) buses entering the terminal undergo inspection of both vehicles and drivers who will transport passengers during the 2026 homecoming rush.
“We have been conducting roadworthiness inspections (ramp checks) on buses scheduled to depart for two days now, carried out by the Vehicle Testing Service Unit (UP PKB),” Sandi said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
During inspections conducted on Monday, 9 March, of eight buses examined, three were declared roadworthy and five were deemed unfit for travel due to the discovery of vulcanised tyres, emergency doors obstructed by seats, incomplete glass-breaking tools and damaged passenger stairs.
In Tuesday’s inspections, of six buses checked, five were declared roadworthy and one failed due to worn tyres, expired fire extinguishers and loose steering system components.
According to Sandi, the inspection results are being immediately followed up by urging bus companies to meet all safety requirements to ensure safe travel for passengers.
Sandi urged members of the public planning to travel during the homecoming period to pay attention to safety aspects throughout their journey. Travellers should ensure their homes are secure before departure and avoid wearing conspicuous jewellery whilst travelling.
“It is hoped that with inspections of vehicle condition and facility readiness, the homecoming traffic flow at Tanjung Priok Terminal can proceed safely, orderly and comfortably for the public,” he said.
The terminal has also established a health checkpoint in collaboration with community health centres and the National Narcotics Board (BNN).
“This includes health checks and urine tests for drivers,” he said.
