Tani Merdeka says Prabowo’s economic direction aligns with Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution
Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of DPN Tani Merdeka Indonesia, Aiman Adnan, said the direction of President Prabowo Subianto’s economic policy aligns with the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, which emphasises kinship and social justice in the economy. ‘We see the direction of the economy pursued by President Prabowo as in line with the spirit of Article 33 UUD 1945, i.e., an economy built with the spirit of togetherness, mutual cooperation (gotong royong), and social justice,’ he said, cited in a statement from the Government Communications Bureau (Bakom) of the Republic of Indonesia, received in Jakarta on Thursday. He said these views were also expressed in a peaceful demonstration organised by Tani Merdeka Indonesia together with the Association of Market Traders of Indonesia (APPSI) at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May. The action was attended by around three thousand participants comprising farmers, market traders, micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprise operators, fishermen, students, and community organisations from various regions. Aiman stated that national economic development must prioritise the welfare of small communities such as farmers, market traders, fishermen, and micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises; they require protection and equal opportunities to thrive amid economic competition. ‘For us, Indonesia’s economy must not only benefit large groups or a handful of people. Farmers, market traders, fishermen, MSMEs, and the general public must receive equal attention and opportunities to develop,’ he said. He noted that Tani Merdeka Indonesia and APPSI support strengthening the people’s economy and government efforts to eradicate economic practices that harm the public, such as monopolies, cartels, and price manipulation. In addition, the groups advocate strengthening cooperatives and village economies to widen access to capital and marketing for farmers and market traders. Aiman emphasised that economic development must align with the values of Pancasila, particularly those related to humanity, unity, and social justice. Therefore, he said, economic development must be pursued with a spirit of justice, unity, and shared prosperity.
