In collaboration with a British consultancy company, the
Tangerang regental administration plans to use garbage to
generate electrical power.
Regent Ismet Iskandar said on Saturday that the company has
been conducting a feasibility study for the project, which would
be operational in two years time.
"We hope that everything goes according to plan. We have to be
patient because the project won't materialize for at least two
years, and even reaching that stage won't be easy," he added.
The regent said the administration had reached several
agreements with the foreign company. This included the
administration providing land for a processing plant, which could
accommodate 2,000 tons of garbage per day.
"The company will provide the technology and machines and
finance the construction of the processing plant. It will be
authorized to manage the site for 15 years," he said.
Afterward, Ismet added, the plant would be managed by the
administration.
Meanwhile, head of garbage management at the Tangerang
Sanitation Agency said the regency produces 1,500 tons of garbage
per day but only 45 percent of it could be transported to the two
dumps in Jatiwaringin in Mauk district and Pasir Muncang in
Jayanti district.
"The rest of the garbage is piling up at temporary
dumps in 26 districts as we lack the transportation to deliver
it," he said.
He said the administration had 81 garbage trucks but needs at
least 150 to transport all of the regency's garbage to the dumps.
