Tangerang to transform garbage into electricity<\/p>\n

In collaboration with a British consultancy company, the
\nTangerang regental administration plans to use garbage to
\ngenerate electrical power.<\/p>\n
Regent Ismet Iskandar said on Saturday that the company has
\nbeen conducting a feasibility study for the project, which would
\nbe operational in two years time.<\/p>\n
\"We hope that everything goes according to plan. We have to be
\npatient because the project won't materialize for at least two
\nyears, and even reaching that stage won't be easy,\" he added.<\/p>\n
The regent said the administration had reached several
\nagreements with the foreign company. This included the
\nadministration providing land for a processing plant, which could
\naccommodate 2,000 tons of garbage per day.<\/p>\n
\"The company will provide the technology and machines and
\nfinance the construction of the processing plant. It will be
\nauthorized to manage the site for 15 years,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Afterward, Ismet added, the plant would be managed by the
\nadministration.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, head of garbage management at the Tangerang
\nSanitation Agency said the regency produces 1,500 tons of garbage
\nper day but only 45 percent of it could be transported to the two
\ndumps in Jatiwaringin in Mauk district and Pasir Muncang in
\nJayanti district.<\/p>\n
\"The rest of the garbage is piling up at temporary
\ndumps in 26 districts as we lack the transportation to deliver
\nit,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said the administration had 81 garbage trucks but needs at
\nleast 150 to transport all of the regency's garbage to the dumps.<\/p>",
