Tangerang rejects casino plan

JAKARTA: The administration of Tangerang regency, Banten, condemned the Jakarta administration's plan to build an integrated localization of casinos in Thousand Islands, as several of of the islands were under its jurisdiction.

The regency secretary, Ismet Iskandar, said last Friday that the regency refused the idea of making the islands as a gambling den. If Jakarta administration insisted, then they must have been reckless. Ismet said that they would pursue the case to the Ministry of Internal Affair for settlement.

Based on the regulation No. 22 on Special Regional Autonomy, 108 islands in the Thousand islands were claimed by Tangerang regency, and currently being disputed at the National Survey and Mapping Agency (Bakosurtanal).--JP
