Tanah Datar enters disaster emergency transition phase until December 2026
The Tanah Datar Regency Government in West Sumatra has officially ended the 14-day emergency response period for floods and landslides. Effective 27 May 2026, the area has entered the disaster emergency transition phase towards post-disaster recovery.
The decision was made by Regent Eka Putra following a coordination meeting and input from the regional leadership forum (Forkopimda) and other relevant parties. The emergency response period, previously set from 13 to 26 May 2026, has concluded as scheduled.
“We have decided that the disaster emergency response period has ended. From 27 May to 27 December, Tanah Datar will enter the emergency transition phase towards post-disaster recovery,” Regent Eka Putra stated on Friday (29 May 2026).
The extended transition period until year-end was set due to ongoing damage to infrastructure and housing requiring coordinated management. This status provides the legal framework to ensure rehabilitation and reconstruction proceed optimally in accordance with regulations.
The areas of focus for handling include four severely affected districts, namely:
Although most displaced persons have returned home, the local government ensures intensive monitoring. “There is still damage at the disaster sites affecting community life, requiring swift and precise handling through this transition phase procedure,” Eka added.
Regent Eka Putra also expressed deep appreciation to the military (TNI), police (Polri), volunteers, and donors who worked tirelessly during the 14-day emergency response. Cross-sectoral support was deemed crucial in helping communities navigate the initial crisis phase of the disaster.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ermon Reflin, Head of Tanah Datar’s Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), reported that conditions on the ground are gradually improving. Community clean-up efforts have been carried out extensively.
Ahead of Eid al-Adha, BPBD has ensured basic needs are met. “Displaced persons returning home have been provided with food aid. We will continue monitoring throughout the emergency transition phase to ensure full community recovery,” Ermon concluded. (YH/I-1)
