Takjil Hotspots in Jakarta Predicted to Cause Congestion During Ramadan, Including Benhil
Jakarta — The scramble for takjil and Ramadan bazaars is predicted to once again crowd numerous locations across Jakarta. To anticipate the resulting congestion, the Traffic Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has begun mapping sites with the potential to disrupt traffic flow.
One area of particular concern is Bendungan Hilir (Benhil), known every year as a takjil paradise during the fasting month. Head of Operations at the Traffic Directorate, Police Commissioner Robby Hefados, confirmed that his team has already carried out the mapping exercise.
“That’s correct — for takjil locations and Ramadan bazaars, we have already mapped them, including Benhil, which usually has them, as well as several other spots. For those with the potential to disrupt traffic flow, firstly we have already mapped the takjil locations, and secondly we will deploy traffic personnel in the areas around those takjil sites,” he said on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
According to Hefados, the presence of officers on the ground is important for easing the congestion that typically builds as iftar time approaches. Police hope that with these anticipatory measures, the public can still enjoy hunting for takjil comfortably without triggering prolonged gridlock around Ramadan bazaar sites.
“So that we can help maintain smooth traffic flow in those areas,” he said.
Traffic movement patterns in Jakarta and its surrounding areas are predicted to shift during the holy month of Ramadan. The Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya has begun mapping potential congestion points, particularly during the morning and afternoon periods.
Hefados disclosed that his team is still conducting analysis and forecasting regarding public mobility during the fasting month.
“Most likely, for public movement during the fasting month, particularly during Ramadan, we are still carrying out analysis and predictions. Especially in the morning, with the government’s policy of implementing work-from-anywhere activities, as well as office activities starting later in the day, public traffic movement in the morning will probably shift to between 9 and 10 o’clock,” he said on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
