Central Aceh (ANTARA) — A takjil bazaar at the UPTD Paya Ilang Market in Takengon, Central Aceh, has been packed with residents hunting for iftar menu items.

Many of the visitors, a number of whom are survivors of the Sumatra disaster, appear to be recovering economically.

"I believe that in the post-disaster period, we have now entered the economic recovery phase. Economic recovery — and it happens to coincide with the first day of Ramadan," said Sofyan Hakim, a Takengon resident, to ANTARA on Thursday.

Sofyan Hakim expressed hope that the community would continue to work together to assist those affected by the disaster.

Meanwhile, another Takengon resident, Sari, noted that the takjil bazaar was bustling with people seeking food for breaking their fast.

"I'm really happy because it's so lively. We bought bananas, risoles, and other iftar items. I hope that going forward, people can become even more successful and start their businesses again. It's sad, of course, because over there people were hit by the disaster and lost their homes, but we feel things are getting better," said Sari.

The takjil bazaar is one of the measures taken by the Central Aceh regency to restore the regional economic cycle.

Previously, Central Aceh also held a subsidised market ahead of Ramadan 1447 Hijriyah on 14 February. The programme was carried out by the Aceh Provincial Government in cooperation with Bulog and local administrations across 23 regencies and municipalities, and was planned to run for three days from 14 to 16 February.
