Tackling Inflationary Pressures, Generali Indonesia Launches GEN Shariah Perlindungan Aman
Inflationary pressures in Indonesia continue to rise, with the national standard of living increasing by 3.71% in 2024 and continuing to grow since 2022, according to Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS). The rise is driven by higher prices of essential goods, with food inflation reaching 4.58% in 2025, and increases in energy and transport costs. The national inflation rate stood at 2.92% in December 2025 and rose to 3.55% in January 2026. Several international institutions even project Indonesian inflation to remain in the 2-2.5% range through 2030, signaling potential continued price pressures in the medium to long term.
The Islamic finance sector has shown positive performance amid these dynamics. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) reported that the Islamic financial services industry posted positive growth throughout 2025, including in assets of Islamic insurance. Based on the 2025 National Survey on Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK), the level of Islamic financial literacy reached 43.42%, up from 39.11% previously. Meanwhile, the Islamic financial inclusion rate stood at 13.41%, indicating a gap between public understanding and access to sharia-based financial products.
There is also significant potential in the area of waqf funds. Badan Wakaf Indonesia (BWI) estimates the national waqf fund potential at Rp181 trillion per year; however, actual fundraising to date is around Rp3.5 trillion, or less than 2% of the total potential.
Considering the economic conditions and the public’s demand for sharia-based financial protection, PT Generali Indonesia launched its latest product, GEN Shariah Perlindungan Aman. This shariah life insurance product offers benefits designed to grow, increase, and become blessed:
• Grow: Insurance payout or inheritance can increase up to 250% and rise periodically every five years during the policy term. This scheme aims to help mitigate rising living costs due to inflation.
• Increase: An additional 110% benefit payout is available if the participant dies during Hajj or Umrah.
• Bless: Includes a wakaf feature that enables customers to channel contributions through official nazir. Generali Indonesia collaborates with Dompet Dhuafa for wakaf management and distribution.
In addition to life protection, the product can be complemented with health insurance add-ons covering inpatient and outpatient costs and other hospital care. With these features, customers are expected to gain comprehensive protection while enjoying the convenience of wakaf in a Shariah-compliant manner.
The GEN Shariah Perlindungan Aman launch took place during the Ramadan 1447H period in Jakarta on Tuesday (3/3). The event was attended by Generali Indonesia’s directors and management, including Rebecca Tan (President Director & CEO), Jutany Japit (Director & Chief Agency Officer), Suzwamela Zawawi (Operations Group Head), alongside Dr H Asep Supyadillah, M.Ag (Chairman of the Sharia Supervisory Board of Generali Indonesia), H Prima Hadi Putra, ST.M.Com (Director of Wakaf Institutional Development and Investment Dompet Dhuafa), and Akhmad Fadli (Actor, TV Host and Public Figure).
