Tabanan Regency Government Begins Implementing Sanctions for Waste Management Violators
The Tabanan Regency Government (Pemkab Tabanan) will begin implementing sanctions for waste management violators starting on Wednesday (13/5/2026). The sanctions range from verbal reprimands and written warnings to minor criminal offences (tipiring).
Head of the Task Force for Accelerating Waste Management, I Gede Susila, stated that sanctions will be applied to residents who continue to litter indiscriminately or fail to follow waste management protocols. The implementation of sanctions will occur alongside ongoing community education.
“While proceeding, we will continue to provide education, but if violations are found, sanctions will certainly be imposed,” said the Secretary of the Tabanan Regional Secretariat.
In addition to residents, sanctions will also target business operators, including hotels, restaurants, and cafes. For businesses that do not adhere to waste management regulations, administrative sanctions may impact their permitting processes.
“So the task force, through the Civil Service Police Unit, will record various forms of violations that occur. Of course, prioritising education and guidance before verbal sanctions, so as not to reach tipiring sanctions,” Susila explained.
Besides administrative and tipiring sanctions, the local government is also promoting social sanctions through traditional village bylaws or village regulations. Susila noted that most traditional villages in Tabanan already have rules regarding waste management, and it is hoped these can be optimally implemented.
“Almost all traditional villages already have bylaws (perarem) related to waste. I request that these social sanctions be properly implemented in each village,” Susila revealed.
