Suyitno facing travel ban

JAKARTA: The National Police have requested that a travel ban be imposed on graft suspect Comr. Gen. Suyitno Landung, who allegedly engaged in abuse of power when investigating a scandal involving state-owned Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) in 2003.

National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Paulus Purwoko said on Tuesday that investigators had sent their request to the Attorney General's Office (AGO), which is the body authorized to issue travel bans.

"It is just normal procedure in an investigation into a graft case," Paulus explained.

Paulus also said that Suyitno, who is the deputy governor of the National Resilience Institute, is required to report to the police on a regular basis.

The former chief of detectives is alleged to have accepted a car and cash amounting to Rp 300 million (US$30,600) from a suspect in the bank scam. -- JP
