Suwung Landfill Reopens Today, Garbage Trucks Queue Up
Long queues of trucks for waste disposal at the Suwung Final Processing Site (TPA) in Denpasar reappeared on Friday (17/4/2026). It is known that the demonstration by the Bali Waste Self-Management Forum (SSB) at the Bali Governor’s office in Renon on Thursday (16/4/2026) resulted in an agreement for the limited reopening of the Suwung TPA for organic waste. However, today all types of waste are still being accepted.
“So far, all types (mixed or not) are being accepted for today because of yesterday’s demonstration. Perhaps next week they must be separated,” said Staff from the Bali Provincial Forestry and Environmental Agency (DKLH) Komang Lila Pratama while on duty at the Suwung TPA.
Nevertheless, the disposal routes at the Suwung TPA are separated according to waste type. Non-organic and residue waste is disposed of in Zone B or the Badung route. Meanwhile, organic and mixed waste is disposed of in Zone D or the Denpasar route.
“Zones A and C are already full. They have been covered with soil, also to prevent fires. Zone E is actually not yet full, almost. But it is not opened yet, as a precaution,” explained Pratama.
The operational hours for waste disposal at the Suwung TPA today are from 08:00 to 20:00 WITA. Currently, waste disposal operations are carried out directly without an inspection process. From detikBali’s observations, the majority of garbage trucks are carrying organic waste. “If separated, usually the trucks from the government,” said Pratama.
In addition to the Bali Provincial DKLH team, teams from the Denpasar City Environmental and Cleanliness Agency (DLHK), Badung Regency DLHK, and the Bali Provincial Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) are present to oversee waste disposal activities at the Suwung TPA.
The Denpasar City DLHK team is also conducting data collection on the number of trucks arriving to dispose of waste. This data collection, besides recording the disposal schedule tracks of the trucks, also serves as the basis for issuing fuel oil (BBM) tickets for government-owned special trucks.
“This is data collection in Denpasar so that it’s recorded to know how many times the trucks have gone back and forth because it’s also for BBM tickets in Denpasar,” explained Denpasar City DLHK staff Wayan Darma.
The implementation of this data collection is carried out in shifts during the Suwung TPA waste disposal operations. “There will be data collection shifts until the afternoon, I’ll change shifts at 09:30 WITA later. For now, there is no inspection yet,” emphasised Darma.
