Sutiyoso's open house celebration

JAKARTA (JP): Governor Sutiyoso will be having an open house celebration at his official residence on Dec. 27, the first day of Idul Fitri. All Jakartans are welcome, a staffer said on Tuesday.

The annual celebration at the state-funded house on Jl. Taman Suropati 7 in Central Jakarta would start at 10 a.m. after the governor had performed his Idul Fitri prayers, and visited President Abdurrahman Wahid and Vice President Megawati Soekarnoputri at their respective residences.

"The celebration is open to everybody, so all Jakartans are welcome to come to the governor's house on Idul Fitri," the staffer at the governor's office said.

It is a common practice for state officials to open their houses to people from all walks of life during such holidays.

According to an announcement at City Hall, the governor will attend Idul Fitri prayers at the City Hall compound which will be led by Muhammadiyah chairman Syafi'i Maarif. (dja)
