REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG – Suspected measles cases in Central Java Province continue to surge. As of Tuesday (7 April 2026), the number of suspected measles cases in Central Java was recorded at 2,188.
Based on data from the Central Java Provincial Health Office, several regions have the highest suspected cases, including Kudus Regency with 501 cases, Brebes with 202 cases, Cilacap with 119 cases, Pati with 72 cases, and Klaten with 54 cases. So far, there have been 144 confirmed measles cases in Central Java.
The highest confirmed measles cases are in regions such as Cilacap (21 cases), Banyumas (20 cases), and Pati (20 cases). Measles cases in Cilacap and Pati have been classified as extraordinary events (KLB) because two cases were found in the same location. A measles KLB has also occurred in Klaten, which currently records six confirmed cases.
Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi stated that the measles issue is one of the priorities for handling together with regency/city governments. “We are in Klaten to check the measles vaccination, which is now a focus in Central Java. We have conducted early detection in several regencies/cities,” Luthfi said during a visit to measles immunisation at Klaten Tengah Health Centre in Klaten Regency on Wednesday (8 April 2026).
He added that efforts to promote measles immunisation are being carried out simultaneously with regency/city health offices. The aim is to prevent the disease from spreading further.
Luthfi urged the public with children to complete their vaccinations immediately. He also asked the community to be alert to measles symptoms, such as finding red rashes and fever. Residents are asked to take their children to the health centre immediately if they experience such symptoms.
“Prevention must be massive and must include a healthy lifestyle and nutritious food,” Luthfi said.
