The revenue from the parking lot in the Blok M area, South Jakarta, which is suspected to be illegal, reaches up to Rp100 million per day. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI) has assured that it will thoroughly investigate this case.

This substantial profit was revealed by the Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Parking Special Committee, Ahmad Lukman Jupiter, on Monday (11/5). He stated that this illegal practice has been carried out by a private operator named Best Parking.

He explained that the operator has been collecting money from the public at six parking gates (gates) of Blok M Square for the past three years without official permission.

“Within the Blok M area, there has apparently been illegal parking for three years, collecting money from the public, but without permission, illegally taking money that belongs to the public,” said Jupiter at the raid location, Blok M Square, South Jakarta, on Monday (11/5), quoted from detikcom.

“As we all know, the parking operator at Blok M Square can earn more than Rp100 million per day. And that is the public’s money taken illegally,” he continued.

Deputy Coordinator of the Governor’s Special Staff, Yustinus Prastowo, emphasised that Pemprov DKI fully supports the efforts to regulate and investigate the illegal parking lot in Blok M.

“So we fully support the efforts carried out by the DPRD Special Committee, and as you can see, the Transportation Agency and Civil Service Police Unit are also joining the field operation. What we did yesterday was immediate internal coordination,” Yustinus said at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/5).

Regarding the spotlight on the parking lot that has been operating for years, Pemprov DKI Jakarta is currently gathering evidence to confirm the exact status of the location.

“Now the Transportation Agency and the Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency are conducting in-depth investigations because this involves aspects of permitting and parking tax collection,” Yustinus said.

Yustinus stated that the investigation is being conducted to determine whether the management truly lacks permission or is still in the document processing stage.

“So this is what we are delving into, whether it is confirmed that there is no permit or it is still in process; that is what we are investigating together,” Yustinus said.

Yustinus assured that the entire tracing process will be carried out openly.

“We will provide updates later and ensure everything is transparent,” Yustinus said.

He also emphasised that Pemprov DKI will not tolerate illegal parking practices.

“In principle, the Provincial Government certainly does not tolerate any illegal parking activities,” he said.

In addition to regulating permission issues, the management scheme and alleged revenue sharing from the parking area are also a primary focus in the internal evaluation of Pemprov DKI.

This is considering that the parking management system in Jakarta is very diverse, from private parties required to deposit regional taxes to on-street parking managed by the Transportation Agency with other parties.

“Parking management is varied; there is private parking where they collect parking tax and deposit it to the Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency, and there is also parking organised by the Education Agency, especially on-street, which is collaborated with other parties,” Yustinus said.

“So we will first delve into the scheme, permitting aspects, and compliance with parking tax payments,” he added.
