Surjadi orders tougher supervision
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has urged the
capital's five mayors to coordinate with other agencies to deal
with problems related to tribal affiliations, religion, race and
societal groups.
City officials, in cooperation with military and police
officers, should take fast, appropriate and integrated action to
handle such problems," he said in a meeting with the mayors over
the weekend.
The five mayors are Abdul Kahfi of Central Jakarta,
Sutardjianto of West Jakarta, Pardjoko of South Jakarta,
Sudarsono of East Jakarta and Suprawito of North Jakarta.
Surjadi said he agreed with Wiranto's idea that Jakarta needs
a special board to anticipate and counter any problems.
He also asked his subordinates to be more critical and more
careful in handling problems. "Do check and recheck and don't
comment about anything that is unclear."
The governor urged the five mayors to rejuvenate the
neighborhood security system which he claimed had slackened
recently.
"Supervise the condition around your area and improve your
services to public," the governor ordered the mayors.(29)
