Jakarta (ANTARA) – PT Solusi Sinergi Digital, or Surge, a local internet infrastructure and services provider, announced a collaboration with Wuhan FiberHome International Technologies Co. Ltd. (FiberHome), a Chinese information technology and communications infrastructure provider, to bring 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) at 1.4 GHz to Indonesia.

The signing of the cooperation documents took place at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona on Monday, 2 March. The commercial 5G FWA 1.4 GHz service is claimed to be the world’s first and marks a milestone in accelerating Indonesia’s digital transformation.

‘By leveraging 5G FWA 1.4 GHz, we will accelerate fixed broadband penetration nationwide, unlock new digital economy opportunities, empower MSMEs, and strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness on the global stage. This is about building an inclusive digital future for the nation,’ said Surge director Shannedy Ong in a formal statement.

Surge launched the commercial 5G FWA 1.4 GHz service named Internet Rakyat (IRA) in mid-February, covering Regional 1, which comprises Java, Maluku, and Papua. The service provides fixed broadband speeds up to 100 Mbps for Rp100,000 per month with unlimited data and free modem rental.

Through this partnership, FiberHome brings a latest network solution that enables fast and stable fixed broadband without the need for complex cabling infrastructure.

‘We believe this initiative will act as a catalyst for digital inclusion, economic growth, and innovation across Indonesia, while strengthening the country’s position in the global digital ecosystem,’ said Jason Lin, CEO of PT FiberHome Technologies Indonesia.

The IRA service resulting from the Surge–FiberHome collaboration is expected to boost digital literacy, empower MSMEs, and expand access to digital-based education and public services across Indonesia.

Previously, a similar collaboration was forged between internet service provider MyRepublic and Chinese TIK infrastructure company ZTE to deliver 5G FWA 1.4 GHz internet services in Regions 2 and 3, spanning Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara.
