Surge in Passengers at Adisutjipto Airport for Eid 2026 Rises 484 Percent
Adisutjipto Airport in Yogyakarta has recorded extraordinary traffic growth during the 2026 Eid transportation period. According to data from the closing of the Integrated Air Transport Post, the number of passengers at this airport surged by up to 484% compared to the same period the previous year.
The General Manager of Adisutjipto Airport, Wibowo Cahyono Sektiadi, officially closed the post operations that had been running for 18 days, from 13 March to 30 March 2026. During that period, 10,671 passengers were served, far exceeding last year’s figure of only 1,729 passengers.
Wibowo explained that this very high growth serves as a strong indicator of the recovery of public interest in air transportation, particularly for short-haul routes that are the current operational specialisation of Adisutjipto Airport.
“This high growth reflects the recovery and increasing public interest in air transportation, especially for short-haul routes served from Adisutjipto Airport,” said Wibowo on Monday (30/3/2026).
Increases were also seen on the air operations side. There were 245 aircraft movements recorded during the post period, a 354% growth compared to the previous year which only served 54 flights. To accommodate the high demand, airlines also realised 68 additional flights (extra flights).
Based on passenger movement patterns, Adisutjipto Airport noted two crucial points of public mobility:
This trend shows a tendency for holiday travellers to arrive earlier to avoid congestion, but to return more quickly to resume activities in their home cities.
The dominance of the Jakarta (Halim Perdanakusuma) route remains the main characteristic of traffic at this airport, contributing nearly 99% of total passengers. Nevertheless, airport management is optimistic that this positive trend will lead to opportunities for airlines to develop new routes in the future.
The traffic increase exceeding the 2025 achievements is a positive signal that flight operations using ATR-type aircraft are increasingly favoured by the public due to their efficiency and ability to reach regional airports quickly.
