Surge in Aesthetic Trends Transforming Healthcare Service Patterns
The government faces a policy dilemma with no truly comfortable solution.
The growth of the beauty and wellness industry in Indonesia is accelerating alongside the increasing need for self-care and rising purchasing power among the population. Amid this trend, healthcare service providers highlight that the high interest in aesthetic treatments must be balanced with professional medical handling and a more holistic health approach.
Dr Silvia Kartika, an aesthetic doctor at Seraphim Medical Centre, stated that basic skincare should indeed be performed from an early age independently, but problematic skin conditions must still be handled by specialist doctors to achieve optimal results.
“Skincare must be done from an early age independently. However, handling problematic skin must be managed by specialist doctors so that the results can be better,” said Silvia during the Aesthetics and Dental Health talkshow as part of the Shine n Smile Glow Fest series recently.
That statement emerges amid the growth in public consumption in the self-care sector. Data from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs shows that consumption in the personal care services, fashion, and footwear category rose from 2.91% in the second quarter of 2025 to 4.21% in the third quarter of 2025.
That increase reflects growing public interest in self-care, including beauty services and supporting health services. The national cosmetics industry also recorded positive growth. Throughout 2025, the Indonesian cosmetics market booked revenue of Rp35.6 trillion and is projected to grow by 4.73% annually, with the personal care, skincare, and makeup segments as the main pillars.
On the other hand, the need for aesthetic services is not limited to facial and skin treatments. Specialist Periodontist at Bethsaida Hospital, Dr RA Syanti W Astuty, mentioned that dental aesthetic treatments are now one of the most handled cases.
“Currently, aesthetic treatments rank in the top three most frequently handled cases, of course besides cavity fillings and wisdom teeth issues,” said Syanti.
According to her, patients are now increasingly selective because aesthetic procedures no longer focus solely on neatness of teeth, but also on harmony with facial appearance to look natural.
Silvia said that facial treatments also need to consider jaw conditions influenced by dental and oral health. Therefore, in certain cases, facial aesthetic procedures need to be preceded by handling in the dental and oral area, including implant placement to adjust the jaw structure.
“Treating the face must also consider jaw conditions influenced by dental and oral health. For patients with dental and oral conditions that require aesthetic treatment, they must first be handled by dentists with certain specialisations,” she said.
She added that the long-term results of aesthetic treatments are also determined by consistent care and a healthy lifestyle. According to her, routine facials at least once a month can serve as basic care, but must be accompanied by a healthy lifestyle.
The significant need for professional services is also reflected in oral and dental health issues in Indonesia. Data from the Ministry of Health shows that 56.9% of Indonesians in 2023 experienced dental and oral problems, but only 11.2% sought treatment.
That condition indicates a wide gap between the high prevalence of dental and oral health problems and public access or awareness to obtain medical treatment. In the context of the continuously growing beauty and wellness trend, industry players assess that a holistic health-based aesthetic approach will be increasingly needed.
Seraphim Medical Centre presents itself as a provider of premium holistic healthcare services based on functional medicine. Meanwhile, Bethsaida Hospital has the Bethsaida Hospital Dental Centre, which provides holistic dental care services by specialist doctors, including implants as one of the aesthetic procedures. Both are subsidiaries of PT Paramount Enterprise International, part of the Paramount Group.
The issue was also raised in the Shine n Smile Glow Fest held by 10Xhibition at the West Atrium Living World Alam Sutera from 31 March to 5 April 2026. The exhibition was attended by beauty clinics, dental clinics, as well as banking and insurance service providers.
Event organiser Oki Baren said visitors could consult directly with expert doctors and take advantage of various promotions for health and beauty services during the exhibition.
