The growth of the beauty and wellness industry in Indonesia is\naccelerating alongside the increasing need for self-care and rising\npurchasing power among the population. Amid this trend, healthcare\nservice providers highlight that the high interest in aesthetic\ntreatments must be balanced with professional medical handling and a\nmore holistic health approach.<\/p>\n
Dr Silvia Kartika, an aesthetic doctor at Seraphim Medical Centre,\nstated that basic skincare should indeed be performed from an early age\nindependently, but problematic skin conditions must still be handled by\nspecialist doctors to achieve optimal results.<\/p>\n
\u201cSkincare must be done from an early age independently. However,\nhandling problematic skin must be managed by specialist doctors so that\nthe results can be better,\u201d said Silvia during the Aesthetics and Dental\nHealth talkshow as part of the Shine n Smile Glow Fest series\nrecently.<\/p>\n
That statement emerges amid the growth in public consumption in the\nself-care sector. Data from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic\nAffairs shows that consumption in the personal care services, fashion,\nand footwear category rose from 2.91% in the second quarter of 2025 to\n4.21% in the third quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n
That increase reflects growing public interest in self-care,\nincluding beauty services and supporting health services. The national\ncosmetics industry also recorded positive growth. Throughout 2025, the\nIndonesian cosmetics market booked revenue of Rp35.6 trillion and is\nprojected to grow by 4.73% annually, with the personal care, skincare,\nand makeup segments as the main pillars.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the need for aesthetic services is not limited to\nfacial and skin treatments. Specialist Periodontist at Bethsaida\nHospital, Dr RA Syanti W Astuty, mentioned that dental aesthetic\ntreatments are now one of the most handled cases.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurrently, aesthetic treatments rank in the top three most\nfrequently handled cases, of course besides cavity fillings and wisdom\nteeth issues,\u201d said Syanti.<\/p>\n
According to her, patients are now increasingly selective because\naesthetic procedures no longer focus solely on neatness of teeth, but\nalso on harmony with facial appearance to look natural.<\/p>\n
Silvia said that facial treatments also need to consider jaw\nconditions influenced by dental and oral health. Therefore, in certain\ncases, facial aesthetic procedures need to be preceded by handling in\nthe dental and oral area, including implant placement to adjust the jaw\nstructure.<\/p>\n
\u201cTreating the face must also consider jaw conditions influenced by\ndental and oral health. For patients with dental and oral conditions\nthat require aesthetic treatment, they must first be handled by dentists\nwith certain specialisations,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She added that the long-term results of aesthetic treatments are also\ndetermined by consistent care and a healthy lifestyle. According to her,\nroutine facials at least once a month can serve as basic care, but must\nbe accompanied by a healthy lifestyle.<\/p>\n
The significant need for professional services is also reflected in\noral and dental health issues in Indonesia. Data from the Ministry of\nHealth shows that 56.9% of Indonesians in 2023 experienced dental and\noral problems, but only 11.2% sought treatment.<\/p>\n
That condition indicates a wide gap between the high prevalence of\ndental and oral health problems and public access or awareness to obtain\nmedical treatment. In the context of the continuously growing beauty and\nwellness trend, industry players assess that a holistic health-based\naesthetic approach will be increasingly needed.<\/p>\n
