Surabaya KAI Records 48,000 Passengers on Second Day of Eid 2026
Surabaya (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daerah Operasi (Daop) 8 Surabaya recorded 48,328 passengers using train services on Sunday, the second day of Idul Fitri 1447 Hijriah/Eid 2026. The Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday, stated that based on preliminary data up to 10:00 WIB, this number consists of 24,786 departing passengers and 23,542 arriving passengers. “This figure is estimated to increase further by the end of the day as train schedules continue,” Mahendro said. He explained that the highest number of passengers was recorded at three main stations: Surabaya Gubeng Station with a total of 14,214 passengers, divided into 7,773 departures and 6,441 arrivals. Then, at Surabaya Pasarturi Station, there were 12,619 passengers, split into 6,089 departures and 6,530 arrivals, as well as Malang Station with 6,558 passengers, including 3,154 departures and 3,404 arrivals. During the Lebaran transport period from 11-22 March 2026, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya has served 523,344 customers, with details of 289,695 departing passengers and 233,649 arriving passengers. Meanwhile, long-distance train ticket sales up to Sunday (22/3) reached 434,004 tickets, or about 77 percent of the total capacity of 561,528 seats provided for the period from 11 March to 1 April 2026. Overall, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya projects serving 853,511 passengers during that period, with 434,004 departures and 419,507 arrivals. To support the smooth mobility of the public, the government provides a 30 percent discount on commercial economy train tickets valid from 14-29 March 2026. In the Daop 8 Surabaya region, 188,288 discounted tickets are available, and 138,782 tickets, or about 74 percent, have been sold. Thus, there are still around 49,000 discounted tickets that the public can utilise. The highest sales rate was recorded on 18 March 2026 with 30,293 tickets sold, followed by 19 March 2026 with 28,409 tickets, and the peak return flow is predicted for 24 March 2026. “Customers are urged to arrive early at the station and not approach departure time to avoid the risk of missing the train,” he said. In addition, customers are advised to consider alternative departure schedules if tickets for preferred times are nearly full, and to utilise onward travel schemes for route and time flexibility. KAI also reminds all customers to travel according to the route stated on the ticket to maintain mutual comfort, safety, and order.
