Supporting National Programme, Lempuing Jaya Police Sector Holds Patrols to Prevent Forest and Land Fires
The Lempuing Jaya Police Sector Chief IPTU Al Hafiz personally led the patrol, traversing the Lempuing River waterways with Bhabinkamtibmas personnel and elements of the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) on Thursday (22 May). The integrated agenda involved a number of parties from the TNI, the sub-district government, community leaders, to private sector companies as a form of strengthening cross-sector synergy to safeguard environmental stability and regional security.
Also attending in support were General Manager of PT Prime Agri Resort, Alex, together with the Tanjung Sari Plantation Manager, Ilham, as representatives of private sector involvement in strengthening environmental mitigation based on collaboration.
In its implementation, the joint team erected billboards calling for the prevention of forest and land fires at several strategic points along the riverbank.
Furthermore, the police distributed social assistance packages consisting of staple foods to traditional fishermen who depend for their livelihoods on the Lempuing River area.
This integrated activity positively impacts the strengthening of social resilience and the economy of riverine communities along the river. The direct presence of authorities in the field is regarded as effective in building collective community awareness to actively protect the environment while supporting a safe and orderly public security situation.
The move is part of readiness to address the potential forest and land fires that are a national concern in the South Sumatra region, especially as the dry season begins. In addition to patrols and socialisation, the police also conducted direct visits to raise public awareness about the dangers of illegal land burning.
This activity aligns with the Polri’s Presisi policy to strengthen a pre-emptive and preventive approach within communities and support the Indonesian President’s priority agenda on environmental protection and strengthening social resilience in disaster-prone areas.
Meanwhile, the Ogan Komering Ilir Police Resort (Polres) Chief, AKBP Eko Rubiyanto, via the Lempuing Jaya Police Sector IPTU Al Hafiz, stated that a humane approach is the police’s main strategy in building partnerships with communities.
“We are engaging all elements of society and the private sector to jointly safeguard the environment and prevent forest and land fires at an early stage. Prevention must be conducted collectively so that its impact is truly felt by the community,” said IPTU Al Hafiz.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of South Sumatra Regional Police, Kombes Pol Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, stressed that the South Sumatra Regional Police continues to instruct all resort police to be responsive to potential disturbances to the environment and social order among the community.
“We are committed to fully supporting government programs for the welfare of the people through consistent mitigation steps, preventive education, and targeted distribution of social assistance,” said Kombes Nandang.
The integrated dialogue patrol and humanitarian action demonstrates Polres Ogan Komering Ilir’s commitment as a strategic partner with the community in maintaining security stability, environmental preservation, and supporting the continuity of national development in South Sumatra.
