PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Persero), operating as InJourney Airports, has commenced preparations to optimise Bandung’s Husein Sastranegara Airport following a government policy that opens the door for the airport to once again serve scheduled commercial jet flights. The move is based on a directive from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation, numbered AU.102/1/8/DRJU.DAU/2026, which allows the airport to handle scheduled domestic and international commercial flights using both jet and propeller aircraft.

InJourney Airports President Director Mohammad R. Pahlevi stated that an Operational Readiness Activation and Transition (ORAT) team has been formed to manage all stages of preparation. “The preparations refer to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s letter, which emphasises that security, safety, and service aspects must meet requirements to ensure the optimisation runs well and smoothly,” Pahlevi said in a written statement on Friday, 26 June 2026. He added that the company is continuously coordinating with various parties to ensure operational readiness meets standards.

On the technical side, InJourney Airports is upgrading the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) capacity from category 5 to category 7, reinforcing security personnel, and conducting runway overlay works to support jet aircraft operations. “Preparations are also being carried out on the airside, including resurfacing the runway in several sectors to support jet aircraft operations, as well as ensuring the readiness of taxiways and aircraft parking aprons,” Pahlevi explained.

Meanwhile, the Bandung city government is accelerating the arrangement of supporting infrastructure around the airport. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said the current main focus is on road access, public street lighting, and parking facilities. “At Husein Airport, we are currently focusing on preparing supporting infrastructure and facilities, from road repairs and public street lighting to parking facilities. This is what we are continuously coordinating,” Farhan stated.

Farhan estimates that in the initial operational phase, Husein Sastranegara Airport will serve around 3,000 passengers per day. He is targeting that by August 2026, the airport will be able to accommodate jet aircraft such as the Boeing 737-500 and Airbus A320. “The hope is that by August, jet aircraft will already be operating, such as the Boeing 737-500 or Airbus A320. That is the maximum planned capacity, while smaller aircraft and private jets can certainly continue to operate,” he said.
