The Majalengka Regency Housing, Settlement Areas, and Land Office (DKPP) has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to meeting the housing needs of the community through the subsidised housing programme.

Head of DKPP Majalengka Regency, Sidarta, highlighted the success of the previous year’s achievements, where the realisation of subsidised housing construction reached 1,003 units. This number exceeded the initial target of 1,000 units.

“For 2026, the government has set a larger target, namely the construction of 3,000 subsidised housing units,” said Sidarta on Friday (10/4/2026).

He mentioned that to date, the availability of recorded housing has reached 1,406 units. These homes are managed by 44 active developers in Majalengka.

He added that they are emphasising that the construction must have a direct impact on the local industry, particularly roof tile artisans in the Jatiwangi area. Through the “gentengisation” programme, the government is encouraging the roof material needs for thousands of these houses to be supplied by local small and medium industries (IKM) producing clay roof tiles.

“We want to ensure that this housing development creates an inclusive economic ecosystem. In addition to opening up employment opportunities for construction workers, the presence of these projects also revitalises UMKM in the surrounding areas and prioritises the nearest building material suppliers for efficiency,” he added.

This step is expected not only to address the housing shortage (backlog) in Majalengka Regency but also to serve as a driving force for the revival of the Jatiwangi roof tile industry, which is a source of regional pride.

One resident, Wildan (34), expressed that the subsidised housing programme has greatly helped him to own a decent home at an affordable price.

He also noted that the construction has enlivened the atmosphere in the surrounding environment. Many of his neighbours have started opening food stalls to serve the construction workers, thus stimulating the economy.

“The gentengisation programme using local production is being used widely again, so Majalengka’s identity remains visible in these new housing estates,” he said.
