Supported by Bank Indonesia, Kainnesia Holds Inaugural Fashion Show through 'Bumi Segara' Collection
Kainnesia held its inaugural fashion show during Ramadhan this year at the main atrium of Plaza Ambarukmo in Yogyakarta. The fashion brand officially introduced its visual identity through the collection titled “Bumi Segara” (Earth and Sea).
The event, fully supported by Bank Indonesia (BI), became one of the main highlights of this year’s Modest Style Runway series and a historic milestone for Kainnesia’s journey in the Indonesian fashion industry.
The “Bumi Segara” collection comprised six women’s designs that were highly relevant to clothing needs during the holy month and approaching Eid al-Fitr. Kainnesia successfully blended the modest fashion’s dignified aspects with dynamic urban style, making it suitable for both hijab-wearing and non-hijab-wearing women. The dominance of warm earth-brown and serene ocean-blue colours created an earthy aesthetic, aligned with the spirit of self-reflection during Ramadhan.
“Holding our inaugural fashion show in Yogyakarta, right in the midst of Ramadhan atmosphere, is a blessing in itself. We felt Plaza Ambarukmo is the right stage to show how Baduy weaving and Lurik can appear very modern,” said Kainnesia Founder Nur Salam.
He added that the collection represents an homage to Indonesian nature, which served as the primary inspiration behind every piece of fabric displayed.
The collection’s strength lay in its details and philosophy. Co-founder Meilinda Damayanti explained that material selection was crucial to ensure user comfort, especially during social gatherings. “We combined the strength of Baduy weaving with Lurik lines symbolising growth. The patchwork technique we applied also conveys the message that beauty can emerge from carefully transforming fabric scraps into something of high value,” she explained during an interview following the show.
Bank Indonesia’s support served as an important catalyst for the event’s success. As part of efforts to strengthen the creative economy and textiles-based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), this synergy demonstrated that local products possess strong competitiveness to fill the rapidly expanding modest wear market. Kainnesia’s appearance on this stage was expected to inspire more local artisans and designers to continue innovating without abandoning their cultural roots.
The fashion show concluded with enthusiastic applause from Plaza Ambarukmo visitors enjoying their pre-iftar time. “With the successful debut of this fashion show, Kainnesia is ready to advance further in the professional fashion industry, carrying the spirit of Bumi Segara as a representation of Indonesia’s inclusive and sustainable textile progress,” the founder said.
