Support for 2,000 Gaza Orphans Continues Through Virtual Guardian Meetings Ahead of Eid al-Adha
A virtual ‘Temu Kangen’ event brings together Indonesian guardian families and Gaza orphans who still hold hope amid the humanitarian crisis. Ahead of Eid al-Adha, support for Gaza orphans continues through a mentoring programme connecting Indonesian foster families with beneficiaries virtually. The ‘Temu Kangen Dekap Yatim Palestina’ (DYP) meeting, held via Zoom on Thursday (21 May), provided a platform for interaction between guardian families and Gaza orphans connected through ongoing aid programmes. In her address, Adara’s CEO Maryam Rachmayani stressed the programme focuses not only on aid distribution but also on safeguarding the livelihoods and futures of children who have lost families due to conflict. Launched in 2021 with 763 children, the mentoring programme now supports over 2,000 Gaza orphans. Meanwhile, Takaful’s Executive Director Daniel Basbous described the worsening plight of Gaza orphans, with over 60,000 now orphaned—a record high. Most live in displacement camps, having lost family members and suffered physical injuries from attacks, yet many retain hope and aspirations despite their hardships. One of the most poignant moments was when children shared their stories and hopes directly. Raed Hilmi Sayam, a Quran memoriser under guardianship for five years, expressed gratitude for continuing his education and Quranic studies despite difficult circumstances. Six-year-old Mohammad Mossab from Khan Younis recited a poem about Gaza, expressing his ambition to become an engineer and help rebuild his homeland. Nada Atallah voiced her desire to become a lawyer to advocate for justice for Gaza’s people. Omar Ismael shared his wish to become an English teacher so Gaza’s plight could be communicated to the international community. Ahead of Eid al-Adha, Gaza’s children continue to maintain festive traditions despite limited resources. Baraa Mousa Saadi recounted memories of mosque takbir gatherings, family togetherness, and hopes for a safe, peaceful life. Eleven-year-old Lin Mahmoud Hafs from Khan Younis recited a hadith on the virtues of orphan guardianship, highlighting the importance of supporting children who have lost parents. The系列活动 underscore that support for Gaza orphans is a long-term effort to sustain their lives and futures amid ongoing humanitarian crises. Ahead of Eid al-Adha, organisers urged public participation in a qurban distribution programme targeting 18,018 tins of corned beef for Gaza orphans and refugee families. Amid worsening food crises, the food aid aims to provide moral support and meet community needs during the festive period. Livestock farmers and traders noted rising prices of cattle and buffaloes ahead of meugang traditions and Eid al-Adha due to high demand. The qurban programme serves as a reminder that compassion knows no national boundaries. The government has set 1 Dhu al-Hijjah on Wednesday, 28 May 2025, meaning Eid al-Adha on 10 Dhu al-Hijjah falls on Friday, 6 June 2025. The initiative is part of Baznas’ commitment to extend qurban benefits to conflict-affected and food-insecure regions. A Flash Sale Qurban runs until 5 May 2025, prioritising distribution to regions with low meat availability in Eastern Indonesia and Africa.
