Supervision is one of the crucial aspects during the implementation of the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday. Public policy expert from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Agustinus Subarsono, assesses that such supervision aims to maintain the productivity of ASN during WFH. “If there are no implementation guidelines and a supervision system for WFH or work from anywhere (WFA), the consequence will be suboptimal productivity and performance,” said Subarsono when contacted on Wednesday (1/4/2026). Ministries/agencies and regional governments overseeing ASN can utilise output-based assessments, as well as leverage the e-performance system or digital Employee Performance Targets (SKP). Brief periodic online meetings, according to Subarsono, are also essential to ensure effective coordination continues. Therefore, he encourages the establishment of standard operating procedures (SOP) related to mechanisms and supervision of ASN during remote work. “If a national SOP is not yet available, each agency needs to develop internal supervision mechanisms,” stated Subarsono. “ASN productivity must remain maintained in providing public services,” emphasised Khozin to Kompas.com on Wednesday (1/4/2026). To maintain ASN productivity, he encourages periodic supervision and evaluation of those working from home. “We request that the implementation of WFH every Friday be evaluated periodically and supervised consistently by ministries, agencies, and regional governments,” said Khozin. He himself highlighted the selection of Friday as the remote work day, which he deems not ideal and potentially leading to a long weekend. Nevertheless, he encourages the government to use this momentum seriously to design better public transportation in the regions.
