Super schools in villages

JAKARTA: State Minister of Administrative Reforms T.B. Silalahi suggests that "super schools" be built in rural areas rather than in noisy urban centers.

Speaking at a thanksgiving gathering for the various honors recently received by 29 South Sulawesi public figures on Friday, Silalahi said the super schools, which cater to gifted and talented students, should provide a safe, pleasant and peaceful environment.

"Only under such learning conditions can students learn well," Silalahi said, naming a number of regions in the province which he said should be perfect for the schools. Among those areas are Malino, Sengkang, Soppeng and Bone in Sulawesi, Antara reported.

A number of super schools have been established in many major cities in Java, including one in Magelang and several in Jakarta. South Sulawesi has one.

The honored community leaders from South Sulawesi included State Logistics Agency head Beddu Amang, who received the Mahaputra Utama medal from the government. He was also recently appointed president of the Asian Society of Agricultural Economists.

Governor HZB Palaguna and businessman Tanri Abeng recently received the Adikarya Pariwisata medal. (swe)
