Bandarlampung — The Bandarlampung Health Office has confirmed that the Sumber Rejo Nutrition Service Fulfilment Unit (SPPG) has been temporarily shut down by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) following a food poisoning case that affected hundreds of students.

“Based on a letter from the BGN, the SPPG’s operations have been temporarily halted pending sterilisation measures and renovation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) kitchen,” said Bandarlampung Health Office chief Muhtadi Arsyad Tumenggung on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

However, he added that the BGN’s written communication did not specify the findings from its field inspection of the SPPG in Sumber Rejo, Kemiling sub-district.

“The findings were not detailed — the letter merely stated that based on field findings and the report of the Lampung Provincial Regional Coordinator, the SPPG’s operations were to be suspended,” he said.

Muhtadi said the Bandarlampung Health Office had also conducted its own field inspection and identified several issues that needed to be rectified at the Sumber Rejo MBG kitchen.

“The floor in the serving area was dirty when it should be clean — it had never been scrubbed — and footwear inside also needs to be kept clean,” he said.

Furthermore, he continued, the MBG serving area had no partition separating it from other rooms, meaning cooking odours and other contaminants could spread throughout the entire facility.

“There should be a partition between the serving area and other rooms to ensure greater sterility. We expect the Sumber Rejo SPPG to adhere to the standard operating procedures that have been established,” he said.

Hundreds of pupils from three schools in Kemiling sub-district, Bandarlampung, were suspected of suffering food poisoning from the MBG programme on Wednesday, 13 February 2026.

The majority of affected students experienced diarrhoea and were unable to attend school. Of the hundreds affected, five to six pupils required intensive hospital treatment.
