Sumatra's Power System Restored, PLN Normalises 176 Substations
PT PLN (Persero) announced that Sumatra’s power system has fully recovered following a disruption in the interconnection transmission network. By 6:00 AM WIB on Sunday (24 May), 176 affected substations had been restored by field staff.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that restoration efforts were intensively carried out since the initial disruption was detected on Friday (22 May). The process was phased, starting from power generation systems, transmission networks, to household distribution.
“Thankfully, thanks to the relentless efforts of all field personnel and support from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and local authorities, Sumatra’s power system has now returned to normal. Affected customers are gradually regaining power supply,” Darmawan said while inspecting the PLTU Tenayan operations in Pekanbaru, Riau, on Sunday (24 May).
Darmawan explained that safety and system reliability were the top priorities during restoration. After reconnecting the main transmission network, PLN synchronised power from various plants back into Sumatra’s transmission system.
PLN management expressed appreciation to the public for their patience during the repair period.
“We thank the public for their patience and support throughout the restoration process,” Darmawan concluded.
This achievement reflects the company’s capability in delivering innovations focused on safety and reliability of the power system.
