Economic recovery for communities affected by hydro-meteorological disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra continues to show positive progress. Amid ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are showing renewed growth, marked by increased trade transactions on digital platforms.

Data from the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (Satgas PRR) as of 30 May 2026 shows total MSME transactions via e-commerce platforms reached 14,712,693 across the three affected regions, up from 13,209,182 recorded in early May.

This increase is one indicator of the community’s economic activity restarting after the disaster. The growth in transactions not only demonstrates small businesses’ adaptability but also reflects the gradual recovery of survivors’ economic activities across the regions.

Breaking it down, Aceh recorded 94,300 transactions with 1,396 MSME products sold digitally. North Sumatra reported 11,093,689 transactions across 631 products, while West Sumatra saw 3,524,704 transactions from 101 marketed products.

This development coincides with accelerated disbursement of economic stimulus aid to affected communities. By end-May, Aceh had disbursed Rp250.745 billion out of a total allocation of Rp254.440 billion. North Sumatra distributed Rp56.615 billion from Rp62.9 billion, while West Sumatra released Rp16.835 billion from Rp17.740 billion.

Minister of MSMEs Maman Abdurrahman stated that strengthening MSMEs is a key part of the government’s permanent post-disaster recovery strategy, outlined in the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Master Plan (Renduk).

He added that the government has allocated between Rp900 billion and Rp1 trillion for micro-business development, targeting affected entrepreneurs, particularly those without access to banking services.

‘Approximately Rp900 billion to Rp1 trillion for micro-business development is included in the Renduk. This aid targets micro-entrepreneurs not yet banked, with a goal of reaching around 200,000 over two years,’ Maman said in a written statement on Saturday (30/5/2026).

Satgas PRR Chairperson Muhammad Tito Karnavian said disaster management is gradually entering the permanent recovery phase through rehabilitation and reconstruction until 2028. In this stage, community economic recovery is a top priority alongside housing, infrastructure, and basic service development.

‘We are now moving towards permanent recovery. From the three stages—emergency response, transition, then the permanent phase known as rehab-rekon—the key is the Renduk,’ Tito said.
