Sultan to be questioned in graft case

YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta Governor Sultan Hamengkubuwono X said
here on Tuesday that he was ready to be questioned by the
Attorney's General Office over the alleged misused of some Rp 54
billion funds of Bank Indonesian liquidation support (BLBI), for
his now defunct Bank Mataram Dhanarta.

"Yes, of course, I am ready for that. As you see, I came
to the Attorney General's Office a few months ago for questioning
in the same case," he told reporters at his office.

Hamengkubuwono's Bank Mataram Dhanarta borrowed Rp 54 billion
of BLBI funds to develop its subsidiary PT Sadian Mitra
Corporation (SMC). It has failed to pay back the loan.

Earlier, the Attorney General's Office has named the Bank's
President Gerard Yacobus, along with Director Abdul Basjik Sadin
and PT SMC's President Daryono Setiyono as suspects.

Attorney General's Office spokesman Barman Zahir said that
Hamengkubowono might become a suspect too, depending on the
investigation results.

"But I tell you this, that I had received nothing from that
fund. I never try to enrich myself," the Sultan said. --JP
