Sultan Hotel GBK Site to Be Cleared Soon, Will Become Park and TOD Area
JAKARTA - The land for the Sultan Hotel in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Central Jakarta, will soon be cleared following the determination of execution by the Central Jakarta District Court. The government is preparing a major plan to transform the area into a green open space integrated with public transportation. The determination issued on 30 April 2026 granted the execution request for clearing Block 15 GBK, submitted by the Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg) and the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK). The legal representative for Kemensetneg and PPKGBK, Kharis Sucipto, stated that the court assessed the request as compliant with the law. Thus, the clearing process has a strong legal basis. “The Central Jakarta District Court assessed that the execution request for clearing has been in accordance with the law,” said Kharis in a press statement on Monday (4/5/2026). This plan is part of the comprehensive master plan for the GBK area’s development, focusing on enhancing the ecological and social functions of the area. “How to ensure that the benefits of the green area are maximised, including in Block 15 or the former HGB 26-27,” said Rakhmadi, at the press conference for the opening of the Block Management Transfer Service Post or in GBK, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (3/2/2026). In addition, the area will also be developed with the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concept, namely the integration between public space and access to mass transportation such as the MRT. According to Rakhmadi, the initial design has been prepared and directed so that the public can easily access the area directly from public transportation modes. “In the future, the development will be integrated with public access, including from MRT stations,” he said. Besides the new park, the government also wants to provide public interaction spaces that have previously been limited due to commercial use by private parties. Kharis assured that all legal stages have been completed, from aanmaning to konstatering. Konstatering itself is the process of matching the physical and administrative data of the execution object with the court decision that has final legal force, to ensure no errors occur during implementation.
