Sultan HB X Supports Government in Urging UN to Investigate Deaths of Three TNI Soldiers
The Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono (HB) X, attended the ceremony welcoming the bodies of Corporal (Posthumous) Farizal Rhomadhon and Sergeant Major (Posthumous) Muhammad Nur Ichwan upon their arrival at Adisucipto TNI AU Base. The Sultan supports the government in urging the UN to investigate the deaths of the three TNI soldiers.
“I extend my condolences, but for me, this is an incident that I hope will not be repeated,” the Sultan said to reporters at Adisucipto TNI AU Base, Sleman, on Saturday night (4/4/2026).
Furthermore, the Sultan highlighted how international agreements regarding UN assignments could be consistently implemented. He hopes the UN can conduct an investigation in line with the demands of the Indonesian Government.
“So our demands are there, at the UN, and hopefully it can be carried out well,” he stated.
According to him, an investigation into the incident that caused the three TNI members to fall in Lebanon is necessary. This is to clarify whether there was any element of intent in the tragedy.
“Properly identifying whether this is negligence or intent, I think that’s sufficient,” he said.
It is known that three TNI soldiers on a UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon fell some time ago. The fallen TNI members are Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ikhwan, and Private Farizal Rhomadhon.
Private Farizal Rhomadhon was killed after a projectile exploded near one of the group’s positions near Adchit al-Qusayr village in southern Lebanon on Sunday (29/3).
The following day, on Monday (30/3), the UN confirmed two more TNI soldiers died after an explosion hit a UNIFIL logistics convoy. Meanwhile, two others were injured. The incident, according to the UN, occurred near Bani Hayyan in southern Lebanon.
Previously, detikNews reported that Foreign Minister Sugiono said that after the first incident, the Indonesian government immediately requested the UN Security Council to hold a meeting. The UN Security Council then held an extraordinary meeting. A number of points were conveyed by the Indonesian representative.
“First, we strongly condemn the attack carried out against the peacekeepers, in this case UNIFIL, and we also demand a thorough investigation because this is a peacekeeping mission,” said Sugiono after the release ceremony of the three TNI soldiers’ bodies at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, on Saturday (4/4/2026).
He also requested that the UN evaluate the safety of UNIFIL soldiers. He hopes all TNI soldiers carrying out peacekeeping missions remain healthy and safe.
“We also ask the UN to re-evaluate the safety of UN peacekeeping soldiers, especially in this UNIFIL. Therefore, we once again strive for our peacekeeping forces to be healthy and safe in carrying out the tasks assigned to them,” he concluded.
