Makassar (ANTARA) - South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman conveyed a message on the importance of world peace during a courtesy visit from the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the United States Embassy to Indonesia, Peter M. Haymond.

The Governor, through a statement received in Makassar on Saturday, emphasised that peace is the primary foundation for the advancement of nations worldwide.

“Peace is the solution for all countries. With a peaceful situation, development can proceed optimally and societal welfare can be achieved,” he stated.

The meeting also discussed various ongoing national strategic programmes in South Sulawesi, including infrastructure development, improvements in education quality, integrated connectivity, and child nutrition fulfilment programmes.

He stated that South Sulawesi holds a strategic position as the main hub for goods and logistics distribution in eastern Indonesia, connecting the western and eastern regions.

“We also have a programme to strengthen inter-regional connectivity through the Bus Trans Sulsel public transportation initiative, which is currently operating in the Mamminasata area (Makassar, Maros, Sungguminasa, and Takalar),” he said.

The South Sulawesi Provincial Government is also opening opportunities for strategic partnerships with the United States, particularly in education and research.

This collaboration is aimed at creating superior, innovative human resources capable of competing at a global level.

During the meeting, Peter M. Haymond was accompanied by US Consul General Christopher Green and his entourage.

The US Embassy side expressed interest in the cultural richness and tourism potential of South Sulawesi.

In addition, investment opportunities are wide open in several priority sectors, such as agroindustry and food downstreaming, renewable green energy, as well as economic infrastructure and logistics development.

Furthermore, there is interest in learning the Makassar and Bugis languages, as well as exploring flagship destinations like Rammang-Rammang in Maros Regency, which has been recognised as part of the UNESCO Global Geopark.
