Sukabumi Regency Government Supports Police's Swift Action in Investigating Child Death Case
The Sukabumi Regency Government, West Java, fully supports the swift action taken by the local police in investigating the case of alleged abuse of a child by her stepmother, resulting in the child’s death.
Technical departments in the area have also been instructed to be more attentive in monitoring the social conditions of the community.
As is known, the victim, named NS, was 13 years old. She received treatment from a medical team due to suffering several injuries to her body.
However, fate had other plans. The victim, who was a resident of Jampangtengah District, died while receiving medical treatment.
The police then conducted an investigation. As a result, the police named the victim’s stepmother, TR, as a suspect in the case.
The Regent of Sukabumi, Asep Japar, affirmed that the police are working hard to uncover the case. The investigation is being carried out transparently and professionally.
“I, on behalf of myself and the Sukabumi Regent, am of course saddened and deeply affected by this heartbreaking event. This is a sad news for Sukabumi Regency. There is a child who died as a victim of alleged violence allegedly committed by her stepmother,” said Asjap, on Thursday (26/2).
He affirmed his commitment to stand by the victim. He also emphasized the importance of protecting children’s rights in his area without being influenced by pressure from any party.
“I emphasize that there is no room and tolerance for violence against children in Sukabumi Regency. Whatever the reason,” he explained.
Legal Handling
The Sukabumi Regency Government has handed over the handling of this case entirely to the police.
According to Asjap, anyone who is proven to have committed negligence or violence must be held accountable for their actions before the law. “Justice must be upheld for the victim, NS,” he said.
He has instructed the ranks of the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Service (DP3A) to the village level to be more attentive in monitoring social conditions in the community. So that similar cases do not happen again in Sukabumi Regency.
“I ask all ranks, from sub-district heads to village heads, to be more active in carrying out supervision. We must take care of each other so that Sukabumi becomes a child-friendly area,” he said.
The public is also encouraged not to hesitate to report if they see or hear indications of domestic violence (KDRT) or other acts of violence against children.
“Do not consider domestic violence as a purely internal matter if it endangers lives. Immediately report it,” Asjap concluded.
