Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung will implement Car Free Night (CFN) in the Sudirman-Thamrin area on the eve of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. The policy prohibits private vehicles from passing through the area starting at 22:00 WIB.

“From 10 p.m. onwards we will hold an event called Car Free Night. So private vehicles are not permitted to enter, whilst TransJakarta will continue operating so people can conduct activities,” said Pramono when met at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

Pramono explained that the private vehicle restrictions apply from 22:00 WIB until the takbiran evening activities conclude. The government will continue operating TransJakarta services so that the public can access the area using public transport.

In addition to CFN, the Jakarta Provincial Government is also preparing several activities to enliven Ramadan. On 12 March 2026, a Hijab Fashion Show will be held in the Tanah Abang area. Subsequently, on 19 March, a Bedug Festival will be held in the evening followed by a torch procession.

The “Mudik ke Jakarta” Programme

The provincial government is also launching a programme entitled “Mudik ke Jakarta” which is claimed to be the first of its kind. This programme is aimed at attracting tourists who are not travelling home to their hometowns to spend their Eid holiday in the capital.

“The main tagline is ‘Jakarta is Quiet, Holiday and Shopping are Pleasant, Earnings Come’,” said Pramono.

According to him, the local government believes that the Eid holiday exodus will remain high, so Jakarta will be quieter during that period. This condition is seen as an opportunity for the tourism and trade sectors in the capital.

Several shopping centres in Jakarta, said Pramono, will offer discounts during Ramadan and approaching Eid. The discounts offered range from 70 to 80 per cent through the Ramadan Sale programme running from 4 March to 31 March 2026.
