Students' struggle for reforms

Students' struggle for reforms

From Merdeka

Statements made by some officials that the students' struggle
for reforms did not represent the voice of the people are naive
and a priori in nature.

As a demonstrator of the 1966 generation, I have the moral
obligation to join in speaking out that the present students'
struggle is directly or indirectly a manifestation of the
people's sufferings, which have resulted from the government's
policies which were not oriented to the people's concerns.

Such statements (by officials) are fitting for those people
(certain officials, business tycoons, etc.) who have lived an
affluent life. These people are almost certainly not supporting
students' demands for economic and political reforms. A change of
regime would mean their wealth would perish.

I pray for the success of the students' struggle which enjoys
full backing of the entire citizenry.
