Students protest against students
SEMARANG, Central Java: A number of Diponegoro University
students staged a protest on Tuesday to object to their campus
being used for the political activities of a student
organization.
The protesters were referring to the Indonesian Students'
Solidarity for Democracy (SMID) which has organized gatherings
and demonstrations with workers.
Alun Anshari, chairman of the student senate, told Antara that
the students objected to SMID because it was using the
university's name.
Suharmono, a senate activist, said the gatherings held by SMID
while promoting the popularity of its leaders, are ruining the
university's reputation.
Deputy rector Rofiq Anwar said, after meeting with the
students, that SMID and its activities had nothing to do with the
university. (pwn)
