Students hit by crisis
YOGYAKARTA: Some 4,000 Gadjah Mada University students may have to take a vacation from their studies because of financial difficulties, its rector, Ichlasul Amal, said here Wednesday.
Amal was quoted by Antara as saying that 460 students have already told the university they could not afford to pay their tuition.
Amal said after receiving scholarships for 15 students from Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, that the university was trying to help the students overcome their financial problems. One way was through scholarships.
The university has given scholarships to 350 students, while 2,000 others have received scholarships from various institutions, Amal said.
The 15 Gadjah Mada University students receiving the scholarships from Japan will get Rp 100,000 per month for one year.
