Jakarta (ANTARA) — Hundreds of students from special schools (SLB) across Greater Bandung, along with teachers and members of the Indonesian Blindness Association (Pertuni), have successfully completed reading the Braille Quran during Ramadhan 2026 at Ibn Umm Maktum Mosque in Bandung, West Java.

M. Munir, Director of Islamic Religious Education at the Ministry of Religion, stated that the Directorate of Islamic Religious Education is responsible for providing Islamic educational support across all levels of education, including students and Islamic religious education teachers at special schools.

“This activity involved 300 special school students, 200 Islamic religious education teachers from special schools across Greater Bandung, and 200 members of Pertuni. These special school students are children blessed by Allah SWT and deserve special attention,” Munir said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Saturday.

According to him, Islamic religious education teachers at special schools play a particularly important role, as some are themselves people with disabilities and must demonstrate patience and possess exceptional abilities when supporting students with special needs.

Meanwhile, Amien Suyitno, Director General of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religion, expressed appreciation for the blind students, teachers, and mentors from Pertuni who have guided them to be able to read and complete the Braille Quran.

“We may not be able to see with our eyes, but we must not be blind in our hearts and spirit,” Suyitno said.

Amien also stressed that there should be no difference in educational services between children with special needs and other children.

“As directed by the Minister of Religion, all Indonesian children must receive equal educational services,” he stated.

He added that the Ministry of Religion continues to develop inclusive madrasah programmes to expand access to education for children with special needs so they can receive quality learning opportunities.

Meanwhile, Helmy Halimatul Udhma, Advisor to the Ministry of Religion’s Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP), stated that the Quran completion ceremony by blind students demonstrates that the light of the Quran can be accessed by anyone without limitations.

“This is not merely a spiritual achievement, but also evidence that the light of the Quran is accessible to everyone without boundaries. Inclusion is not just a concept, but a genuine commitment to ensure every child of the nation has equal opportunities in education and self-development,” she said.
