Student brawl claims life

PADANG, West Sumatra: A high school student was shot dead and
three others injured when a police officer tried to break up a
brawl between students from two high schools in Pariaman on
Wednesday.

Following the shooting, the brawlers turned their attention on
the officer who managed to escape, Antara reported.

West Sumatra Police Chief Col. Yuzar Hasan said the officer
was now under police detention as were two of the students
involved in the fight.

He said the three injured students were being treated in
hospitals in Pariaman and Padang.

The brawl between students of STM Negeri and SMA II was
believed to have been sparked by a row following their soccer
match a few days earlier, which STM Negeri lost. (31)
