Student Allegedly Set on Fire by Peer in Lombok Still Traumatised by Fire, Yet Desires to Return to School
Sahid Al Hudri (13) remains terrified every time he sees fire after allegedly being set ablaze by a peer at the Rosudatussaulatiyah Al Ibrahimy Islamic Boarding School in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Although he is suffering from trauma and insomnia, Al expressed his determination to return to school alongside his peers.
“My parents at home are also afraid to use a lighter because I screamed in terror at the time,” Al told reporters at his home on Saturday (6/6/2026). Al admitted that the memory of being trapped within the flames remains vivid, causing him significant difficulty sleeping.
As a result of the incident, Al sustained burns to his thighs, calves, legs, abdomen, face, and hands. He is currently bedridden, watching his friends return to their daily activities. “It is sad, especially seeing my friends go to school. I want to go back to school too,” he shared.
Despite his academic aspirations, Al expressed concern about becoming a victim of bullying due to the physical scarring caused by the burns. “If I return to school, will I be bullied? If not, I want to go back, so I can be like my friends,” he added.
Al’s aunt, Nurul Hidayah, stated that her nephew is scheduled to undergo skin surgery at the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial General Hospital (RSUD). Doctors have also recommended the insertion of a pin in his wrist to restore movement. “We do not know when it will happen. The doctor said a pin is needed so his hand can move again, as he is currently too weak to hold anything,” she said.
Nurul urged the police to investigate the case immediately to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for Al’s medical costs. “There must be accountability so that his treatment can proceed and he can fully recover,” she emphasised.
The alleged burning of three students at the boarding school in Batukliang came to light after a video of the victim went viral on social media. The footage, shared via a Facebook account, shows the victim crying in pain while displaying bandaged burns. The post has garnered 65,000 views and hundreds of comments.
The case has been officially reported to the Central Lombok Police by one of the victims’ parents, who claim that both the boarding school management and the alleged perpetrator have failed to take responsibility for the incident.
