Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP) of the Indonesian DPR is pushing to strengthen bilateral ties between Indonesia and Mongolia through trade cooperation and a visa-free policy for the two countries. This was discussed at a Courtesy Call meeting between the Chairman and Members of the Bilateral Cooperation Group (GKSB) of the Indonesian DPR and the Mongolian Ambassador to Indonesia, Enkhtaivan Dashnyam, at The Lounge, BKSAP, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, 5 March 2026. Member of BKSAP, Muhammad Hilman Mufidi, said the meeting discussed various opportunities for strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Mongolia across sectors from economy, culture, to diplomacy. “The meeting this time with the Mongolian ambassador discussed many big opportunities related to diplomacy with Mongolia in various sectors such as economy, culture, and diplomacy,” he said. He added that both countries have great potential to enhance trade cooperation, particularly in import-export of commodities. Mongolia, for example, has potential to export meat products to Indonesia, subject to the halal certification applicable in Indonesia for food products. “One of the things we want to open is the export-import of meat from Mongolia, and they will also follow the halal certification that exists in Indonesia for food products,” he explained. In addition, Mongolia is also known for high-quality textiles such as wool and cashmere, which could support the Indonesian textile industry. Meanwhile, Indonesia can export a range of staple foods needed by Mongolian people, such as rice, oil, and other food commodities. Further, Hilman added that BKSAP also advocates for visa-free policy between Indonesia and Mongolia to strengthen the bilateral relationship which has been established for 70 years. It is hoped that the opportunities discussed in the meeting will be pursued to benefit both countries, particularly in increasing trade and strategic cooperation in the future. “We also push for visa-free travel between the two countries so that the connection or relationship between Mongolia and Indonesia, which has been running for 70 years, will continue to develop and unlock further potentials in the future.”
