The North Jakarta City Government is cracking down on street vendors and illegal parking in the Sunter Lake area, Tanjung Priok, following resident complaints about traffic congestion caused by the use of sidewalks and roadways.

“We are following up on public reports regarding congestion in the Sunter Lake area, and the handling is being carried out through guarding and enforcement activities at vulnerable points that have been complained about by residents,” said Head of North Jakarta Satpol PP, Budhy Novian, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He explained that this activity is a direct response to public reports about congestion, illegal parking, and the presence of street vendors (PKL) using sidewalks.

“The activities involve guarding critical points reported by the public, such as illegal parking, congestion, and PKL trading in improper locations,” he said.

He added that guarding will continue as needed until the on-site conditions are deemed under control.

“Although the number of personnel may be reduced later, supervision will still be carried out continuously,” he said.

The government also urges the public, especially drivers and vendors, to utilise the provided facilities and not to use public spaces arbitrarily.

According to him, public spaces belong to everyone. Activities should not disrupt pedestrians and other road users.

“We hope the public can park in the designated areas,” he said.

This enforcement activity is led by the North Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), involving combined personnel from TNI, Polri, the Transportation District Office, as well as sub-district and village elements. A total of 90 personnel have been deployed to conduct surveillance at the location.
